Earthchurch is an environmental and social movement. It is based on local groups who meet socially.
There is also an online community using a forum and email lists.
Among all things known to exist, which is most deserving of admiration? Let
me suggest that it's the earth, which sprouts living organisms of infinite
variety. The earth is covered with a blanket of living things. They are in
the air, in the soil, in the waters and on the land. There are microbes and
grass and trees and fish and birds and zebras and people, and a million others
that could be named. To "admiration", it would be easy to add appreciation,
respect, awe, even adoration. Some might say worship, although that word is
usually reserved for things whose existence is open to debate.
So if man is going to have a church, what is more fitting than earth being the
focus of attention? Furthermore, the earth is in danger now, from
deforestation and pollution. Thousands of species are becoming extinct each
year. Large areas of productive land are gradually turning into deserts.
Global temperatures are slowly rising. Our earth needs our protection.
Earthchurch was formed so that people could learn to appreciate the
earth, and care for it. At the same time, we need to take care of each
other. The earth is under assault not only by individuals, but by
corporations and governments. Hence, to protect the earth we must unite large
numbers of people so that they can influence their governments and the
corporations.
